Club History
In the spirit of reconciliation, Ryde Athletics Centre acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
Our Centres history dates back to 1949, when the Ryde Womens Ameture Athetics Club (RWAAC) was started and the Little Athletics chapter has been part of the Ryde community for more than 60 years. Up until 2025 our Centre had two seperate chapters and commitees. One for Little Athletes (5yrs to 17yrs), with the parent body being NSW Little Athletics and the second for Adult Athletics (13's and up including Masters) for interclub competition culminating in National Championships. The parent bodies being Athletics Australia and Athletics NSW.
For the season 2024/25 NSW two parent bodies for athletics ANSW and LANSW created a partnership know as the NSW athletics partnership and now referred to as NSW athletics. This included the merging of the previously seperate athletics calendars to create a simpler athlete pathway and simplified competition schedule among other changes.
Ryde Athletics Centres two seperate chapers both resolved at their 2025 AGM's to adopt a new constitution and become one club overseen by one commitee. This will allow Ryde Athleitics Centre athletes to smoothly move between competition for Little Athletes (now 5's to 20's) and Athletics (now 11s and up, through to Masters) and to create a more connected community across all these age groups.
