Mrs F Downing Trophy
for Most Outstanding Field Athlete
In 1961, the club patroness, Mrs Dorothy Downing (wife of Ryde Mayor Mr Frank Downing, and therefore referred to as Mrs F. Downing), donated a perpetual cup for the Most Improved Athlete over the season. This was the club’s first trophy since its founding in 1949.
The first winner was Colleen Hill, with 26 points.
This trophy has been presented each year. From 1966, however, Mrs Downing also donated a second cup for the Most Improved in Track Events, and the original cup was thereafter awarded for the Most Improved in Field Events.
