E Godfrey Award

for Most Outstanding U14 Athlete (Track or Field)

In 1974, the club had many young athletes, and at that time there was no Little Athletics program. Edna Godfrey, who had retired from the club but remained a life member, wanted to encourage these young athletes to continue in the sport. As a result, the Edna Godfrey Trophy for Most Improved Juvenile (under-14) Track was established. The first recipient was Miriam Spitteler, a promising athlete who later competed at National Championships.

In the 1973/74 season, a separate trophy had been donated for the juvenile (under-14) age group to recognise the Most Improved in Field Events. This was given on behalf of A.B. Patching, a relative of club member Mrs Dorothy Cubban. The inaugural winner was Cheryl McCullough, an outstanding shot putter.

Around the 2000 season, these two awards were merged into a single under-14 trophy for achievement in either track or field, now presented under the E. Godfrey Award title.
